Started at the end of the 2005 Colorado Dark Arts Festival, Plasmacrash was formed by college radio DJ's Asbestos (then simply known as Big Tim) and Rivet, with the intention of performing at the 2006 Dark Arts Festival. After playing at a couple of parties, Rivet's then roommate and ex-Noncompliant guitarist Jonathan Robertson volunteered to play live drums for the band on account of his disdain for fake drums, as well as desire to be a drummer in a band. Plasmacrash was not selected to play Dark Arts 2006 (although Asbestos was selected to DJ), and the festival was slated to be discontinued thereafter, but the band refused to be defeated and continued thier purveyance of high quality music.
In June of 2006, shortly after the Dark Arts Festival, Jon decided industrial wasn't for him and left the band. Near the end of 2006, Skottie Kuhl was added to the Plasmacrash roster after providing guest vocals at a show. He left before ever actually performing another show with the band, however his vocals can be heard on recorded versions of "Caprice" and "Konsumkultur".
In 2007 Rivet was activated to go overseas with the National Guard. The band recruited guitarist Doc Grey, who had played with Asbestos in previous a previous band, as a fill in guitarist for Rivet while he was deployed. After a few bad shows, Doc was relieved from his position and was replaced with Thick Noose guitarist Chaotic Weevil, who had played in a band called Winterwulff and the Sexual Harassment Pandas with Rivet and former Plasmacrash drummer Jon. This transitional period saw the band taking a break from playing live shows.
During the hiatus, Asbestos pursued his side project Tantalus Doctrine, with solo industrial artist and former New Waveforms keyboardist Pseudokiss Masochist. Rivet, meanwhile, continued developing his guitar technique and working on Plasmacrash material over the course of his deployment, and played in a cover band called Testocalypse with some people from his platoon.
As the band was preparing for it's return to playing live shows, Asbestos recruited two new members: drummer Joey Gunn and bassist Kevin Lawless. Gunn managed to land the band a slot performing at the 2008 Anime Wasabi convention in Denver. The band opened for Japanese Industrial act The Royal Dead. While being one of the largest shows the band had played in terms of crowd and venue, Plasmacrash recieved mixed reviews from the audience. The band was invited back to play at the festival again in 2009.
As Rivet was returning from his tour in the Middle East, the band got the incredible news that not only had the Colorado Dark Arts Festival returned, but Plasmacrash was selected to play the show. The show has been the band's greatest to date, but they continued to strive to top themselves seeking to give more astounding performances and play more impressive venues and events.
The band's perseverence payed off as they were given an opportunity to headline the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins, Colorado. This would be an even more impressive performance than the 2008 Dark Arts Festival and further cemented the band's friendship with industrial band Elete. This would also be the last show Kevin Lawless would play with Plasmacrash as like former drummer Jon, he decided industrial music was not his cup of tea.
Lawless was almost immediately replaced with Nic Bastard, bassist for Gunn's other band ALH. Bastard was an excellent fit for the band both in terms of sound and style. One of Bastard's first shows with the band was at bowling alley/ concert venue The Falcon, after which the band was approached by Kelly Baczkowski of Black Crown Entertainment. Kelly became the band's manager and has helped take them in a more professional direction and gained them new exposure. With it's strongest lineup ever, the band continues to cement their sound into the ears of the indusrial music scene.
